Power of Praise
raises generous donation for hurricane relief.
On Friday, October 15th, the Power of Praise Christian Rock band held a
concert at Holy Family Catholic Center at Regina Cli parish in
Alliance.
Roughly 150 people attended from the local community
as well as from outlying areas. A large number of young people were
there, including infants and toddlers, as well as people of all age
groups. One elderly lady in the audience even observed her
ninetieth birthday at the event, and she was honored with a rendering
of the Birthday Song. The band played about 20 songs
mostly drawn from the repertoire of contemporary praise and worship
music. The audience was encouraged to sing along, as
the words were projected onto the bare wall of the listening
hall. Several songs lent themselves well to clapping and
other hand gestures, and these were liberally encouraged.
One particular moment of great emotional impact was
the song I Can Only Imagine, which was sung by soloist Jimmy
Gianotti, in honor of Marine lance corporal Daniel McVicker, of
Alliance, who had been killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb on October
6. While this song was being performed, a Marine Corps flag was
held up before the audience, and everyone in the room rose to their
feet in tribute to the fallen soldier from the community.
The main reason for this particular concert was to
generate a free-will offering to benefit victims of recent natural
disasters in the Gulf of Mexico. A total of $1,030 collected was
donated to Catholic Charities Hurricane Relief. Pati
Greiner, a member of Regina Cli parish, organized the event and sent
notices to schools and churches in the Alliance area, and the pastor,
Fr. Michael Seifert, kindly consented to the use of the center
facilities.
